Our Memoir

Dato' Tajri(DT) and I hope to write about our early childhood days in the kampongs (villages), mine in Selangor and his in Johore, both in Malaysia, our Malay primary schools and our School days in Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman Ipoh, my student days in London and DT's at the University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur, then our working experience. DT and I both started our working life in the public sector. He left to go into business while I left to go into law practice and then to serve the Industrial Court as Chairman and later as its President. I have retired while DT is still active in his business.

We hope to record our appreciation of the roles of the late Tun Hamdan bin Sheikh Tahir the first Principal of STAR and some of the distinguished teachers of our alma matter like Encik Mohd Perdaus Badiuzzaman, Encik Lau Hut Yee and Encik (as he then was, now Dr.) Michael Liau Tet Loke.

We feel our experience of going through the poverty of the rural area, modern secondary education in English not having learned the language in our primay schools, serving the Government and then working in bsiness and in one of the professio might be worth recording for our children and their children, if not for the public.

We have seen the days of colonial Malaya, independent Malaya, then Malaysia. We have been fortunate to have been able to travel quite a bit and on some of these holidays we travelled together. Both of us are keen golfers and I have indulged in some sailing from which I have now retired.

We probably would be able reccord our impression of the social, political and economic conditions of the various times that we went through. We would also like to record our gratitute to our families who have helped us to get to where are. In my case it is my eldest sister Kak Long who has seen me through my upbringing and education. I do not know of any other sister who has done so much for his brother.

We hope to be able to start writing soon. I will start the ball rolling as soon as possibly and DT promised to do so as soon as he comes back from his well earned rest in Dublin sometime in June.
